On June 11, 2015, Sam and Mercy McCawley were tragically killed in a UTV accident while visiting relatives in Texas. The outpouring of support for the family during their unimaginable grief was nothing short of amazing. In the wake of this tragedy, The McCawley family chose to establish The SaMercy Fund with these goals:
• to award Grants of Grace for Grieving Families-funds that are specifically set aside to aid with counseling, retreats and other needs for families experiencing the loss of a child or children.
• to educate parents and riders on the safety precautions that are necessary when driving an ATV/UTV
• to create awareness about the dangers of inappropriate or incorrect ATV/UTV use
• to assist ATV/UTV vendors by providing classes and safety equipment for driver education
It is our steadfast belief that no other family should have to suffer the loss of a loved one because they were not aware of the dangers present in improperly operating an ATV/UTV.
We hope that The SaMercy Fund will come to represent both ATV/UTV safety AND provide respite assistance for grieving families. We will work tirelessly to ensure that we can make this happen. We are a 501c3 public charity. Through previous fundraising efforts in partnership with the Community Foundation of Southern Maryland, we have established a strong foundation for the future of The SaMercy Fund. Any money raised in honour of Sam & Mercy through smaller fundraisers that you might host can be directly donated to our fund. Our money together can begin to make a difference.
If you have questions about how you can help or if you have questions about the fund, our upcoming fundraisers, or how to fundraise independently to contribute, please reach out to at thesamercyfund@yahoo.com.
Thank you for your support of our family and the SaMercy fund. Together we can make a change for the better.
